My name is Gyrd-Ørjan Sture and I’m 25’years old. I live at Askøy outside Bergen, Norway. My passion has always been fishing back to the days when my first flies looked like dots of wool and I finally managed to lure my first trout on a self tied nymph. For me fishing is more than just a hobby, it has become a part of my identity.
Nothing brings me joy the way I feel when I get that take on the end of the line and the brake starts whining as the fish charges off! But for me it's also about the trip, being able to go out fishing, exploring, finding new spots and doing what I love. To share these moments with friends and likeminded makes me feel truly priviledged.
Growing up on a little Island surrounded by water with family excursions to the beach and by boat arround the shoreline most certainly has made me feel at home by the water. I've also lived one year in Pasvik, Norway where I to this day have my browntrout record of 4,2kg.
I fish for salmon mainly in Norway. And I'm lucky enough to work close to two salmon rivers which I devote much of my after work hours during the season. This season I will spend over 6 weeks in various salmon rivers and I’m looking forward to fish some new rivers and some I’ve visited before with friends.
What I love about salmonfishing is cracking the code. I think salmon fishing is quite unique with it’s variation of methods and fishing strategies. Every river has it’s small tricks and colour combinations that when put togheter and presented the right way, will get you that thrilling sensation when your line starts going off your reel and into the stream.
My prefered method of catching salmon is on a #7/#8 single-handed rod with fighting-butt for the small rivers and a double-hand rod for rivers with a bit more size and width. I don’t only fish for salmon I also spend alot of time chasing silver along the coastline aswell as seabass and trout. I have a dream about GT-fishing in the seychelles but that is a project far into the future.
Other than that it’s worth mentioning that I’m a bit of a flytyingjunkie. And I have way more flies than I am capable of storing or use at this point. I wish there was something called and infinity box as it would make my flytying obsession a bit more easy.
