Step By Step

Step 1
melt a small collar at the end of the plastic tubing and press down with a flat surface to widen the collar, then slide the bead back against it and start the fly by tying in the thread tight in front of the bead to stop it moving.

Step 2 with some easy dubbing build up a nice fat ball and brush out all around the bead, tie in some longer strands and fold back if extra length is needed.

Step 3 with some star flash or classic tinsel tie in a small bunch halfway along the strand and covering 1 half of the tubing, then fold back covering the other half of the tube and tie in again. Using your scissors taper the length of the flash so they don't stick together. The fly is broken down into the thirds this would be a full 3/3rds of the fly length.

Step 4 take another bunch of star flash or classic tinsel this time about half, then fold them in half and cut in the middle, with the doubled up strands cut down tie in half way through the strands covering half of the tubing, then fold back and tie in again covering the other half of the tubing, add some more tapering with your scissors if needed. These strands should be around 2/3rd of the length of the fly.

Step 5 tie in some shadow fox pelt in silver doctor blue, this should spread evenly all around the tube and be about 1/3rd of the length of the fly. Trim away the waste material with a scalpel for a tight clean cut and make several tight turns with your thread into the fur.

Step 6 add jungle cock cheeks as long or just short of the har collar, these look best with smaller to medium sized nails tied in long, this allows them to move with the rest of the fly.

Step 7 add a drop of superglue to the tubing infront of the head and make some wraps of the thread into the glue and into the head of the fly. Then push a 4mm tungsten UFO disc into the wet glued het of the fly. A hackle tool is perfect for pushing the cone in. Remove the fly from the vice cut of the tubing 2-3mm from the disc, then use a lighter to melt down the plastic, finally whiclst the plastic is still hot, use a flat surface like a hackle tool to flatten the plastic into the head, making the whole fly extra strong.
